Remembrance and Reflection: 80th Anniversary of the Hiroshima & Nagasaki Bombings
Film Screening: “Silent Fallout”
Hosted by Mainers Ending Nuclear Dangers
What a very powerful evening of remembrance and reflection as we marked the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki—an event that forever altered the course of history and the lives of generations. This commemorative gathering honored the victims and survivors of nuclear warfare, amplified the call for peace, and reflected on the global impact of nuclear weapons. Maine Chapter President Adam Toothaker and board members Doug Rawlings and Peter Morgan attended. The evening featured an exclusive screening of “Silent Fallout”, an award-winning documentary from 2023 that delves into the devastating impacts of radioactive fallout in the U.S., stemming from more than 100 above- ground nuclear tests conducted by the U.S. government. There were stories, a short statement from US Representative Pingree, poems, cranes, a song, and postcards signed in support of HRes 317 “Urging the US to lead the world back from the brink of nuclear war and halt and reverse the nuclear arms race.”
